Ruben D. Martinez, M.D. is a clinical professor in the UTHSCSA and UTMB Department of OB/GYN.
A native of Harlingen, Texas, Dr. Martinez received a BA with Honors from the University of Texas at Austin in 1973, then graduated with his MD degree from Baylor College of Medicine, Houston, Texas in 1977 where he went on to complete a residency in OB/GYN in 1981.
In July of 1981 he cofounded Harlingen Obstetrics and Gynecology Associates P.A., and since 2002 is now a senior partner with Women’s Health Specialist P.A. Between 1982 through 2002 he served as and OB/GYN consultant for the Su Clinica Familiar Midwifery Birthing Center and OB/GYN department, and was medical director for the Texas State Technical College Surgical Technology Program from 1984 to 2007. From 1995 to 2002 he was associate director for the OB/GYN Residency at UTMB, and in 1994 he helped found the Gynecology Clinic and Gynecology Program at South Texas Hospital in Harlingen, Texas.
From 1996 through 2001 Dr. Martinez served as a member of the advisory board and was an instructor for the UTMB-UTPA Physician Assistant Program, and in 2000 was named a member of the executive council for the Texas Association of OB/GYN. He has also served as a member of the Texas Healthcare Information Council. Dr. Martinez is a member of multiple medical and scientific societies and has been the recipient of numerous teaching awards from the American Academy of Family Physicians, the OB/GYN Department and Residency Program at UTMB, and from the UTHSCSA-RAHC in Harlingen, Texas.
In 2000 Dr. Martinez was recipient of the National Faculty Award for Excellence in Residency Education by the Council of Resident Education in Obstetrics and Gynecology.
